The need of repentance
Acts 20:26-27 KJV – 26 Wherefore I take you to record this day, that I am pure from the blood of all men. 27 For I have not shunned to declare unto you all the counsel of God.

Look at the first word in the following verses:
“𝐑𝐄𝐏𝐄𝐍𝐓 ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord; And He shall send Jesus Christ, which before was preached unto you” (Acts 3:19-20 KJV).
Repent—that little word may never be spoken from many pulpits; however, whether or not it is spoken, it is still required. Sin must be repented in order for healing to come.
Repent—“repent, metanoeo….: From meta, “after,” and noeo, “to think.” Repentance is a decision that results in a change of mind, which in turn leads to a change of purpose and action.”

2 Corinthians 7:10 KJV – For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death.
When one considers the meaning of “repentance” when it is used in Scripture, one must recognize the context in light of the circumstances. It is quite obvious that a righteous, all-powerful, and all-knowing God would never have the need to repent as we commonly know and use the term, because God cannot sin. But to use this word in the same context when referring to the repentance God requires of mankind in salvation is very deceptive.
Those who have never been convicted of their sins and turned from their sins to God, like to think that this is not necessary in salvation. They claim that because God repents of certain actions, and God can’t sin, therefore repentance in the Scriptures does not refer to repentance of sin. This is where man in his natural and unenlightened thinking perverts and wrests the Scriptures to their own destruction. They have never experienced the miracle of the new birth (John 3:7), so their understanding has never been opened.

Repentance regarding the sins of mankind means a fundamental and thorough change in the hearts of man from sin and toward God. 𝐈𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐚 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐝 𝐟𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐝 𝐛𝐲 𝐚 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬, but only because a new Master rules in the hearts and lives of the regenerate. Repentance of sin and faith in Christ (Acts 20:21) cannot be separated. They are like two sides of the one coin. You cannot have one without the other, otherwise it is fake.
It was sin that made the Saviour die, not unbelief. “Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures….” Unless and until our sins are dealt with, there can be no true saving faith and no repentance to salvation.
Isaiah 59:2 KJV – But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear.
The cry of repentance is the first cry God hears from convicted hearts by the Holy Spirit as they genuinely seek the Lord. Those with a false peace and a false salvation do not seek because they believe they are saved. It is not a matter of which sins we are to repent of, but a matter of repenting of what we are. Those who refuse to repent of their sins use such arguments as “but how do we know which sins to repent of as we don’t know all our sins.”
It is not a matter of that lame excuse to continue in sin and spiritual blindness, but it is understanding that we have missed the mark and fallen short of the glory of God. We must realize we are lost in sin and we cannot help ourselves, before we can be saved. We must feel our deep need of a Saviour and with a repentant heart, knowing that “my sins” in their entirety caused the Saviour to die the death deserved by me, and by the eye of faith look away to Calvary and see “my sins” removed as far as the east is from the west. True saving faith is a repentant faith.
Then I am saved, “by grace are ye saved through faith”, and I go on my way rejoicing. God does the rest. At that very moment of conversion God sanctifies the believer. He gives the repentant sinner a brand-new divine nature (2 Pet. 1:4) through the fruit of the Spirit (Ga. 5:22-23); a brand new heart, a brand new spirit (Ezek. 36:26), and thus the genuine believer can never be the same again.
This is the miracle of the new birth performed by God on contrite, convicted and believing hearts where Christ has come to dwell and old things are passed away; all things are become new (2 Cor. 5:17). This is regeneration, not reformation, which is works based, empty and vain. Good works are not the root of salvation, but the fruit of salvation, therefore “by their fruits ye shall know them.”

“Because with lies ye have made the heart of the righteous sad, whom I have not made sad; and strengthened the hands of the wicked, that he should not return from his wicked way, by promising him life:” Ezekiel 13:22
False prophets encourage people to continue in sin by not telling them that they need to turn (repent) from their wicked ways. When people sin, faithful preachers must not let them continue thinking they are acceptable before God. If we do not rebuke them, they will be lost, if they continue to refuse to repent of their sin.~~Shared

David killed Goliath with a stone 𝐁𝐄𝐅𝐎𝐑𝐄 he was anointed from God as king. He committed adultery with Bathsheba and had her husband killed 𝐀𝐅𝐓𝐄𝐑 he became king. Then he repented and was thereafter known as a man after God’s own heart… 𝐘𝐎𝐔 might have started out strong and then royally messed up by falling back into sin, but that doesn’t mean you have to 𝐒𝐓𝐀𝐘 in that mess! Repentance makes all the difference. If it wasn’t for David repenting from his sins and turning back to God, who knows what could’ve become of him. But because he repented, he officially became one of the only men in the Bible known as a man after God’s own heart. Your sin doesn’t have to become who you are. Repent and become who you’re meant to be instead: a blood bought, born again, redeemed and forgiven child of the One True God! Your story doesn’t end until your life ends. If you’re still breathing, you still have time to repent and make an eternal difference! ~~Shared

It is not just an awareness of sin or being sorry for sin, although these are part of it. King Herod was very much aware of wrong-doing when he ordered John the Baptist’s head on a plate for John’s rebuke of his and Herodias’ unlawful union. “𝐀𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐞𝐱𝐜𝐞𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐬𝐨𝐫𝐫𝐲…” (Mark 6:26-27 KJV) But he did not repent – 𝐓𝐔𝐑𝐍 from doing what he knew was wrong. “𝐘𝐞𝐭 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐨𝐚𝐭𝐡‘𝐬 𝐬𝐚𝐤𝐞, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐬 𝐰𝐡𝐢𝐜𝐡 𝐬𝐚𝐭 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐡𝐢𝐦, 𝐡𝐞 𝐰𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐫𝐞𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐡𝐞𝐫. If we acknowledge that an act is sin, then we must realize that God hates sin and that we must not love what He hates else we are not in fellowship with him. Saying, “Sorry,” being sorry, or even feeling sorry are not the same as repenting. A person can feel emotionally sorry for something without addressing the underlying issue. “For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death.” (2 Corinthians 7:10) Judas felt great remorse over what he had done to Jesus, but he did not repent. Instead, he committed suicide. (Matthew 27:3–5) Peter also felt great remorse over his denial of Christ (Matthew 26:75), but in his case it did result in genuine repentance and a change of direction, as later he boldly proclaimed Christ in the face of persecution. When was the last time you changed your mind that it didn’t lead to a change in your thinking? If you changed your mind about your sin, would you blissfully continue sinning or do something about it? It is nonsensical to say that true repentance (a change of mind) doesn’t bring about a change in actions.~~Shared

As a young man I resisted God and sinned a lot … even though He showed me kindness and rescued me many times. Finally, He warned me: “This is your last chance!” At that moment I felt intense conviction of sin, and the fear of God caused my heart to pound. I truly repented of my sins, surrendered my life to the Lord and was then gloriously filled with the Holy Spirit. Scripture says the goodness of God leads men to repentance (Rom 2:4), but maybe you need to reconsider your definition of love and goodness. Remember, the goodness of a loving Father also includes serious warnings, uncomfortable discipline and painful correction. The fear of God is a very good thing!

If repentance means to change your mind, and folks repent concerning sin, then what do you call it when the same folks go back to it? DOUBLE MINDEDNESS! James said concerning the double minded, that he “Is like a wave of the sea, driven by the wind and tossed. For let not that man think that he shall receive anything of the Lord. A double minded man is unstable in all his ways” (James 16-8).
As Christians, we are to bring forth fruits meet for (in keeping with) repentance.
The flesh wars against the spirit and the spirit against the flesh. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit (Galatians 5:16-25). For if we walk according to the desires of the flesh then we will die; but if we, through the Spirit, do mortify and put to death the deeds of the flesh we will live (Romans 8:13).
Those who turn from sin and go back to it are double minded. The double minded need to understand the principles of tug and war. Your flesh and spirit both have desires. Whatever you sow you will reap. If you sow to the Spirit by walking in the Spirit, then you will reap of the Spirit life everlasting. If you sow to the flesh by walking in the flesh, then you will reap corruption (Galatians 6:7-8).
If you are struggling to overcome the flesh and its desires, then sow unto the Spirit your prayers, tears, entreaties; pour your heart out to the only One who is able to free you (2 Corinthians 3:16-18). Cease from your idle, vain and temporal pleasures, pursuits and labors and make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lusts (Romans 13:14). ~~Shared

I hear people all the time say “I don’t have a conviction on that” – and I do understand that in our OWN walks some of us MAY encounter personal convictions that may NEVER effect our true brothers and sisters at all, without it being sin to them. BUT, having said that, there are SOME things in The Bible that are VERY clearly sin for one, and for all – NO FURTHER CONVICTION NEEDED!!
When you feel you have to “wait” to be convicted on something (that you KNOW the Lord, thru His Word, has called sin) before giving it up, then friend you are in grave danger of being judged by God for rebellion and willful disobedience……PLEASE REPENT and ACCEPT the Word of God and live by it. ~~Shared
